Dr. Vanderhoef

Dr. Vanderhoef is a Pro-Adjuster Chiropractor in the Cadillac, Michigan area. I have written his website from scratch using w3c standards of compatibility to ensure that all visitors to his site will see it in the same way. Javascript was used to display the office hours and an accurate status of the office.

View of the Bay - Diane Christenson

While this website has since been replaced, for many years my design served as a web portal for displaying current real estate. The site featured four pages, one of which was dynamically able to display real estate links.

Personal websites

Over the years I have had three other sites for my personal needs. My first was very simple, from when I was in middle school using AOL. My next site was at Geocities using their proprietary software for making websites. The third was the starting ground for my knowledge of HTML and javascript; sub domains of the site were used to advertise some of my software. Discontinued sites:

  1. http://www.geocities.com/xaviersmork
  2. http://www.maggots.s5.com (Not my best choice of domain!)
  3. http://www.m0ngoose.net

With this being the latest site I have: http://www.graphicport.net

Much of my knowledge of websites is from the design of my own personal sites. I have never taken a web programming class, HTML, CSS, or javascript. With my degree program at Baker College, I will be taking some web design classes, to further my knowledge and provide certification of my skills.

Scott's Gmail Alert

My latest project in Visual Studio 2008 is Scott's Gmail Alert, a program I am freely distributing online. Originally I wrote the program with few options for my own personal use, but soon came up with many ideas that I later incorporated into the program. I have received a few suggestions from users of the program, which have also been implemented.

- Manage multiple Gmail accounts, with individual color palettes.
- Replace your default email client to Scott's Gmail Alert for fast Gmail composition.
- Full Support for Windows XP, Vista and Seven - Including Windows Aero Glass.

Caps Lock Alert

Talking to many people in online forums, I noticed a need for a simple program for users of new laptops. There are many laptops now being released without caps/num/scroll lock lights to indicate when the corresponding function is active. While the caps lock key is very outdated, it can still be a major annoyance; therefore, I have created this simple program to visually and audibly alert the user when the key is activated.

EEE Invert Mouse

EEEInvert Mouse is my first program in Visual Basic since high school. While it is simple, I needed to relearn the Visual Basic language structure, and the new .net commands. A lot has changed since high school!

Calandar

This is the Original mis-spelled version of Calandar that I wrote.

Features:

  1. Scott (C) encryption algorithm to protect saved data.
  2. Scrolling information bar.
  3. Popup alerts to display daily reminders.

The Dead Army (Second Version)

This was the biggest project I had ever worked on. Although it was never completed, it has seen many revisions and re-writes. I have uncovered this version from my files, and is the most recent copy of this version. In game play, you can burn trees, kill ghosts and find secret paths.

Panoramio / Google Maps Images

It is my goal to photograph as much of the Cadillac area as I can, accurately portraying it to show the great history, decline and current prosperity that is visible today. Google Maps and Earth are linked to the Panaramio website, allowing users to post pictures geographically for others to see. I believe that the limited number of pictures that exist for Cadillac on Google maps is insufficient; with my project of getting real world images of Cadillac online where people can see them, I am helping to improve the Cadillac area.

Soon pictures of my trip to Europe will be included for viewing.

The Leader and Kalkaskian Newspaper

For a short while, I submitted photos for the Kalkaska News paper, The Leader and Kalkaskian.

The first picture was taken of my neighbor's car being smashed by a tree from a major storm system that passed through. The news was front page! (Kalkaska is a small village) My name is listed in the caption.
The second picture is of a house burning down. Thankfully there was no one hurt, and the house was insured. This was top front page news. My name is directly above the caption.

I took several other pictures for the paper, none that were included. I took pictures of damage from a tornado, and of a horrific car accident that killed a 17 year old girl.

Data list

Data List is a re-written version of Program List Pro, and the last program I wrote for the Palm OS. Data list creates memos within the Memo Pad with a list of all installed programs and associated files. Files with no association, system files and other files could also be listed, along with information about each file. This version finally has the ability to include version numbers for the files.

The time frame of this program is several years since my others, mainly because I did not have a Palm OS device anymore. In 2006 I wrote this program as a weekend project, and it quickly reached over 1,000 downloads after release.

Program List Pro

This was my most popular program for many years. While the concept was simple, there were no other programs available that could create a Memo document with an organized list of all the programs installed. The memo could be easily HotSynced to the computer for backup, or informational purposes.

File information, associated files and files with no association could be listed alphabetically within each list.

Copy Infringe

This unfinished project was intended to remove duplicate entries in the standard Palm OS programs: Memo Pad, Calendar, Address Book and Todo list. Only the Memo Pad and Todo list functions were ever completed, the others were abandoned. This project was not a priority, as often times I work on multiple programs at a time.

m0ngoose calander

This is a version of my mis-spelled Windows "Calandar" that originally were meant to synchronize. Many of the features were completed, and the calendar works well. The collaboration between the Windows and Palm OS versions was never implemented.

The Dead Army

This is the third iteration of the well known game I was very adamantly working on in high school. Similar to all the other versions, the main character is able to move around the game's world, pick up tools like fire for use, and kill enemies. The biggest change to this version is that the original idea of having a zombie follow the main character to help interact with the world was fully implemented.

Monkey Invaders (Lost copy)

My first real program was Monkey Invaders. Similar to Space Invaders, your ship must shoot at the monkey-shaped mother ships that throw banana missiles. Your coconut cannon can shoot down the monkeys - so long as they don't shoot you first!

This was a fun creation I made in freshmen programming class, a friend helped draw the monkeys and many others were amazed I made the game. One time I accidently wrote the help file wrong and rather than using the command to display the information on screen, it printed on the school printers 50 times.... oops, sorry!

Written 1998-1999 [This program has been lost forever]

The Dead Army (Original Version)

Here is what started it all. The Dead Army ended up being my longest on-going project, spanning my entire high school career. This version was soon abandoned since computers did not use DOS as the primary operating system any more. Windows seemed to be a more viable platform.

This version was able to load multiple levels, move the character throughout all parts of the map, and restrict access to tiles that were not meant for walking on (water, etc). Many people in high school helped and encouraged me with this project, even to the end when they were pretty much telling me to "finish it already!"

Puzzle Plus

This was one of my games that I worked on in freshmen year. Based on the same engine for The Dead Army, this is a pac-man style game with circle enemies and a crab main character. What can I say, I am not as talented with drawing as I am programming and graphic design.

The basis was for the character to collect blue or red boxes without being touched by the circles while navigating the maze. To make things more challenging -- even sometime impossible -- when the crab is touched by a circle, an immovable box is placed in the character's location and the crab goes back to the beginning.

Slota

One of my required projects in freshmen year for my programming class was to create a slot machine type game. Being the over ambitious person I am, rather than the text based game required; I made a graphical game that emulates a slot machine. I got an A on this project.

Memory

Here is another game I wrote with the intention of letting my sister use it. Unfortunately it was a little overly complex for six year olds, but I learned a lot over the course of the programming. Up to four characters can play.

Match the cards together to earn points. This is basically the same version of memory that most people are aware of.

Snakes

Up to four players can play either human or computer. To play, the dice is rolled and the characters piece is moved the corresponding number of spaces. Similar to Chutes and Ladders, if the game piece lands on a blue ladder, it moves up to the new space. If the piece lands on a red slide, the piece moves down to the end of the slide.

Draw 2000

Draw 2000 was my attempt to create a kids drawing program. My main emphasis was to create a program so that my sisters, who where about 6, could play on the computer without causing any problems.

This is a re-written version of the original, neither of which were completed.
